Danish Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (DamCham Malaysia) (Formerly known as Malaysian Danish Business Council) Appoints New Executive Director

After serving the Royal Danish Embassy for 32 years, Mr Amos Y C Wong is once again serving the Danish business community as Executive Director of DANCHAM

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 30 July 2021 – The Board of Directors of the Danish Chamber of Commerce Malaysia (DamCham Malaysia) (Formerly known as Malaysian Danish Business Council), has appointed former Senior Commercial Advisor at the Royal Danish Embassy, Mr. Amos Y C Wong as the new Executive Director of DANCHAM.

Mr Wong brings a wealth of experience in promoting trade, investment, joint ventures, and private sector development, having spent almost 35 years as Senior Commercial- and Senior Market Advisor for the Royal Danish Embassy and the Royal Norwegian Embassy respectively.

Mr Wong was among the first to work for the Danish Trade Council in Malaysia when he joined the Royal Danish Embassy in 1971. He brought tremendous value and dedication to the Danish Embassy as Commercial Advisor cum Senior Commercial Advisor for 32 years and was awarded with the Order of Merit by Her Royal Highness Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.

During his service at the embassy, Mr. Wong also took on the role as consultant for DANCED (Danish Cooperation for Environment and Development) and later DANIDA (Danish International Development Assistance). He worked on numerous projects within the areas of urban development and industrialization, sustainable energy, water resources and industrial pollution and oversaw the Partnership Facility Programme set up to promote transfer of Danish ‘Environmental technology & know-how’ to Malaysian companies and investors.

Mr. Wong has extensive experience in research and market analysis and private sector development matters and has assisted countless Nordic enterprises increase their presence in the Malaysian market within various industry sectors, including agriculture, fisheries, FMCG, the environment, energy, natural resources, IT, chemical, pharmaceutical, and healthcare.

Mr. Wong also brings with him a valuable background in conference and congress management having previously held the position as MD for AOS Conventions and Events Sdn. Bhd., and CEO cum Vice President of the Malaysian Association of Convention & Exhibition Organizers & Suppliers (MACEOS). He is also a founding member of the Malaysian Society of Associations Executives (MSAE), set up to advance the stature and professionalism of associations in Malaysia.

Mr. Wong has a good rapport and network with the Government and industry captains in Malaysia and brings on board rich experience and knowledge vital to steer DANCHAM to higher heights in a bid to further scale our membership benefits.

As the new Executive Director, he will lead the DANCHAM secretariat and committees and drive strategic plans and high-level advocacy in close collaboration with the board, the members and DANCHAM partners, including the Royal Danish Embassy, Denmark Asia Business Alliance (DABA), EUROCHAM Malaysia and other fellow chambers.

He will also spearhead resource mobilization and be in charge of providing members with access to crucial industry and market insights as well as networking, referrals and match making opportunities, as DANCHAM continues its plight to protect and promote the Danish business community in Malaysia.
